WHAT HAPPENS

In the area of Città di Castello and the Upper Tiber Valley there are many interesting events throughout the year. Exhibitions and live events in the fields of Art, Music, Theatre, Craft work, Food and local traditions. At the end of August the important International Music Festival is held, in and around Città di Castello, with chamber music, solo artists and Internationally known guest Artists. Cerbara hosts a permanent Furniture Exhibition of local consortium SMAI and every year they kindly put on an large show of furniture 'in stile' which allows local artisans to exhibit and sell their work, the "Mostra Mercato del Mobile in Stile e dell'Antiquariato". September is the turn of the International Horse Show which has competitive classes to International level. Do not miss the chance to sample local produce at the "Mostra mercato del Tartufo ", in early November, where you may be tempted, taste and buy truffles, sausages, ham , porcine mushrooms and cheese. There is also wonderful honey, sweets ,fruits and nuts. The Antiquarian book fair "Mostra Mercato Nazionale del Libro Antico e della Stampa Antica" takes place in September and is wonderful for passionate book lovers The 'concrete utopia' expo in October allows you to discover the latest ecological products and conversions. Numerous sporting events take place such as canoeing down the Tiber, swimming galas and marathons from Stracastello. Many festivals (sagra) are organised, in the villages and countryside around Città di Castello, to celebrate local food delicacies and other traditions. During the summer, in the square & the historical centre, there is a series of musical, theatrical and film shows. Christmas brings re-inactions of the religious story of Christmas and living crib scenes, which may take over a whole village. Santa Claus arrives in Città di Castello by canoe after travelling down the Tiber. A rich calendar of events to discover day by day…….
