MODEL TRAIN EXHIBITION
The Villa Garavelle Model Railway Collection is roughly 1 km from the centre of Città di Castello and shows all the major developments in the history of Italian Railways. On display are various, fully functional models made between 1920 and 1960 by Marchese Giacchino Capelletti. Villa Garavelle became in 1963 the home of the Marchese’s unique collection.
There are 150 models in scale 1:20 to 1:40. Amongst the models on show are the beautiful Gr735 & Gr 746, Four Gr 691, One Gr 680, an alcohol driven Marklin, an Ra 241 and a 2244.
Among the electric engines exhibited there are, in scale 1:20, the E 428 first series, the E554 and the E360 with carriages of the same period. In scale 1:40 there are two steam engines, two electric trains of the first series E428, three E360, Five E 554, an electric train ETR200. There are 17 carriages which are typical of the various periods and over 80 goods wagons.
Another part of the exhibition is dedicated to steam driven agricultural machines.
