TEATRO DEGLI ILLUMINATI (ENLIGHTEND'S THEATRE)
The Teatro degli Illuminati was built in 1662, under the guide of architect Antonio Gabrielli, by the Patrons and Intellectuals Academy devoted to Saint Illuminato and united under the motto "Videor ut Video" and was created by a Senator from Bologna Antonio Lignani, marquise Angela Vitelli's husband . The theatre was inaugurated on the 25th August 1666 with the stage play "Il trionfo della Religione Cattolica in Inghilterra " (The triumph of Catholic Religion in England) a drama taken from Chiappino Vitelli's adventures in England whilst fighting in Mary Stuart's favour in 1571 and composed by the 32 years old Academy's prince Ignatio Lazzari. The theatre has been touched up many times including the interior. It is often chosen for national drama debuts thanks to its wide stage and good acoustics.
